It’s frustrating to receive error code 429 while trying to connect to or play Roblox. This error code indicates the server has reached its rate limit. Roblox places rate limits on its service, which prevent too many requests from being sent simultaneously. This error often appears as an authentication error. It can also occur when opening Roblox Studio or play-testing an experience. If you receive this error code, there are a few things you can do to try to fix it. Error code 429 usually means the server has received too many requests. Generally, you just need to wait a little bit and try again. If the problem keeps happening, reinstall the app and check your network settings. If it happens while play-testing an experience, check your code and limit the requests sent to the server.

Check if Roblox is down.

You can check for any outages on the Roblox Status web page. It also displays a history of previous issues. If any of Roblox's systems are down, you may have to wait and try again later. If all systems are operational, the problem may be something else.

When you send too many requests to the server, you can get temporarily blocked. Wait 15 minutes to an hour for the rate limit to reset. Then try again.

Uninstall and reinstall Roblox or Roblox Studio.

Delete your app cache.

Your cache may be full or corrupted. Your cache folder may accumulate corrupt or outdated data after a while. Clearing the Roblox cache folder may fix this problem. This will not delete any of your saved data or game data. Use one of the following steps to do so:
- Windows: Press Win + R to open Run. Type %localappdata% into Run and click Ok. Delete all the Roblox folders in the Local folder.
- Mac: Open the Finder and click Go > Go to Folder. Enter ~/Library/Caches and press Return. Open the “com.roblox.roblox” folder and delete everything within.

Allow Roblox through your firewall.

Flush your DNS cache.

Change your DNS server address.

You may have the wrong DNS server. You can change to Google’s preferred DNS server and see if this fixes the problems. Use one of the following steps to do so:
- Windows: Click the Windows Start menu and type Network Connections. Click View network connections. Right-click your currently connected network and click Properties. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) in the box and click Properties. Select Use the following DNS server address and enter 8.8.8.8 as the preferred DNS server address. Enter 8.8.4.4 as the alternative server address. Click Ok.
  - If you already have a different DNS server connected, try selecting “Obtain DNS server address automatically” before entering Google’s preferred DNS server address.
- Mac: Click the Apple icon and click System Settings > Network. Click Details next to your connection and click DNS. Click the Plus (+) icon to add a new DNS server. Enter 8.8.8.8 as the DNS server address. Enter 8.8.4.4 as the backup address.^{[4]
