Add or change your maiden name on Facebook in a few easy steps

If you've married and taken your spouse's last name, it can be hard for people who knew you by your maiden name to search for and find you on Facebook. Fortunately, adding a maiden name to your Facebook profile is easy. If you're already using your maiden name and want to add your married name, that's also easy! Read on to learn how to change your name on Facebook to display both your maiden and married names.

Quick Steps

  1. Tap ☰ and select your name.
  2. Tap See your About info.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add Other Name.
  4. Select Maiden Name from the menu.
  5. Enter your maiden name and tap Save.

  1. You'll see these three horizontal lines at the top-right corner on Android, and at the bottom-right on iPhone/iPad.
  2. This takes you to your profile.

  3. This option is under the "Details" header on your profile, just below your location and signup date.
  4. It's under the "Other names" header.
    • If you already have another name here, you can tap the pencil icon on that name to make any changes you need.[1]
  5. Alternatively, if you already use your maiden name and want to add your married name, select Married Name.
  6. Or, if you're adding your married name, enter that instead.
    • If you want your maiden name to appear at the top of your profile, check the "Show at the top of profile" box.
    • Even if you don't want to show your maiden name at the top of your profile, people can still see it on your About page, and they'll still be able to find you when searching.
  7. Now, when people search for you by your maiden or married name, they can find you easily.

  2. This takes you to your Facebook profile.
  3. It's near the top of your profile between "Posts" and "Friends".
  4. You'll find this under the "About" heading on the left.

    • Alternatively, if you want to change your maiden name (or any other names that appear under "Other names," click the three dots to do so now.
  6. Alternatively, if you already use your maiden name and want to add your married name, select Married Name.
  7. Or, if you're adding your married name, enter that instead.
